Eagle Athletics

Yahweh is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never grows faint or weary; there is no limit to His understanding. He gives strength to the weary and strengthens the powerless. Youths may faint and grow weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength; they will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint.

– Isaiah 40:28-31

Northside Christian Academy is a member of the Southeastern Christian Conference. Since the start of our athletic program, our teams have consistently won numerous awards and championships. Athletes in sports like volleyball, basketball, cross-country, and even the latest addition, archery, have been recognized for their athleticism and sportsmanship.

One of the most cherished awards is the Christian Character Award because we recognize that while sports is an important part of a student’s personal development, it is also a venue through which Christ is magnified in word and action.

Here at NCA, our athletic department seeks to develop champion athletes with Christian attitudes by emphasizing sports from a biblical worldview.

Participation in the various sports requires payment of a Sports Fee and purchase of a Spirit Package for each sport played. In addition, participants are required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in each class, attend all games and practice sessions, and are expected to always demonstrate Christian character.

Sports Fee/Spirit Package

The Spirit Package varies by sport, but the Sports Fee is $100 for each sport the athlete plays. These fees cover things like:

· Some uniforms

· Equipment (balls, bases, arrows, etc.),

· Officials/Officiating Teams

· Travel (vehicle, insurance, gas)

· Sports banquet including awards and trophies.

· Incidentals like electricity for lights and air conditioning

· Other miscellaneous expenses

Eligibility

To be eligible, students must first have at least a 2.0 GPA in each class and complete all sport-related paperwork. Second, behavior (among other criteria) will be considered when determining whether a student is allowed to try out. Once accepted, all practices and games are mandatory (unless excused by the coach). Playing time is not guaranteed and will be determined by the coach (on a case-by-case basis) based on several factors such as grades, behavior, attitude, skill level, effort during practices, etc. Some of the sports offered here at NCA include the following.

ARCHERY

The archery team is open to boys and girls in 8th through 12th grades. Tryouts usually begin in the Fall and the season runs from October through March.
